Cambridge Business English Certificates (BEC)

What kind of exam is it?

These exams are designed to test English language ability used in the context of business. They are suitable for adults (aged 16 and over) who are either preparing for a career in business or already in work.


What level do I need to be?

Upper Intermediate (Level 2)
Advanced (Level 3)


How will it help me?

This exam can help provide you with greater confidence in working in an international business environment. It is accepted for entry to some US and UK universities for business-related degrees.


What does the exam consist of?

There are 4 papers:
Paper 1: Reading(1 hour for Vantage and Higher)
Paper 2: Writing (45 min for Vantage and 1 hour 10 min for Higher)
Paper 2: Listening (40 min for Vantage and Higher )
Paper 3: Speaking (14 min for Vantage and 16 min for Higher)


How can I prepare for this exam?

There is no special course to prepare for the BEC examination, however it may be useful to follow either Course 18 - Club 8 Business or Course 8 - General and Business English to improve your business English skills. You can also use practice tests in the study centre.
