Cambridge Preliminary English Test (PET)

What kind of exam is it?

PET is an intermediate level exam, set at level B1 of the Council of Europe's Common European Framework for modern languages. It recognises the ability to cope with everyday written and spoken communications.


What level do I need to be?

Intermediate
Upper Intermediate


How will it help me?

Proof of language ability at Intermediate level. Accepted by some schools and universities outside the UK. Tests skills of reading, writing listening and speaking. A good examination for those thinking of taking FCE later.


What does the exam consist of?

There are 3 papers:
Paper 1: Reading and writing paper (1 hour 30 min.)
Paper 2: Listening paper (30 min. approx)
Paper 3: Speaking (11 min. approx)


How can I prepare for this exam?

Students on a General English course at level C+ or D would be the right level for this exam. A practice testbook is given to all students who register for the exam. You can practise PET tests in the study centre.
