Your First Day

Please examine your confirmation documents carefully - they show the time and address for your registration on the first day of your course.

Arrival

If you arrive in London a couple of days before your course starts, it may be a good idea to try the journey from where you live to the school, in order to check which bus or train you need to use and how long it will take.

On your first day you should arrive at the school at the time stated on your confirmation documents. For morning courses this means 8.30 am and for afternoon courses 10.30 am. Please have your documents with you to show at reception when you arrive.

student level test

Testing

The first thing we need to do is to test your level of English so that we can place you in the correct class. The Frances King staff will explain the test and show you where to sit. The test consists of 50 multiple-choice questions and a short composition. When you have finished, a teacher will come and test your speaking skills for a few minutes and tell you your overall level of English.

After talking to the teacher, you should return to reception to find out which class you will study in. We will then give you your student card and a welcome pack and explain a little about the social programme. Please understand that we will try to place you in the centre of your choice, but it is not always possible. If you need to go to the other centre, we will give you a map and explain clearly how to get there.

Payment

At this time you will have to pay any outstanding balance on your course or accommodation fees. If you have any problems concerning your accommodation, we can arrange for you to meet the Accommodation Advisor, who will be able to help you. If you have any questions regarding bank accounts, London Transport cards, registering with the police etc, please do not hesitate to ask us in reception.

You will also need to fill in some documents for us regarding your home address/London address and emergency contact details so please be prepared and bring those with you.

Class

It will then be time to join your class, so when you find your classroom, please show your student card to the teacher and introduce yourself to the other members of the class. There is no need to be nervous… remember everyone was a new student once!

Induction

During the break on Tuesday morning there will be an induction meeting for all new students, when the Director of Studies will explain a little more about the school, facilities, study centre etc. If you think of something you forgot to ask us on your first day or if you have any worries about your class you can talk to the Director of Studies then. In both centres there is a notice board with a map of the local area with guidance on shops, museums, bus routes and other helpful hints that may make your stay in London more comfortable, but if at any time you have any queries please come to the reception and ask.
