Walks in London take place each week over the summer months and at regular intervals during the rest of the year. The walks last no longer than 2 hours and often finish with time to discuss any points of interest. The walks are led by the Social Co-ordinator and other teachers who have in-depth knowledge of particular areas of central London.
Here is a current list of the walks on the programme:
THE SOUTH BANK Walk along the river Thames from Westminster to Southwark and see many famous London landmarks, including Parliament and the London Eye. Here you can also fine the Royal Festival Hall, Gabriel’s Wharf, the Oxo Tower, Tate Modern, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and the Millennium Bridge. ST. JAMES Starting at Green Park walk up St. James to Jermyn St. See some old-fashioned shops, and the Queen’s favourites. Plus an antiques market and Wren’s only West End Church. Find hidden courtyards and end up at the Tudor Palace of St. James and Clarence House. THE INNS OF COURT Explore Holborn and four ‘Inns of Court’, Lincoln’s, Gray’s, Inner Temple and Middle Temple. See some wonderful Victorian Gothic and mock Tudor architecture and learn a little about the legal system in this country. End up at the Strand and the Royal Courts of Justice. SOUTHWARK Walk along the river Thames from Southwark Bridge to Tower Bridge and see many famous London landmarks, including Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and The Millennium Bridge. Take a look at Frances Drake’s Golden Hinde, Southwark Cathedral, Hay’s Galleria, and HMS Belfast. WHITEHALL TO TRAFALGAR SQUARE See the magnificent splendour of the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. Walk up Whitehall to Trafalgar Square. See the Commonwealth Office, Horse Guard’s Parade, The Mall, St. Martins-In-The-Fields and much more. CITY WALK Exploring the very heart of the city and 2000 years of London’s history, including London Bridge, St. Stephen Walbrook Church and Mansion House. Wander down cobbled lanes to St. Mary-Le Bow and the surrounding area of St. Paul’s Cathedral to finish up at The London Museum. SOHO AND THE WEST END Visit one of the oldest parts of London. Walk through China Town and the small Japanese quarter. See ‘Theatreland’ and the many pubs, clubs and cafes in this lively area. |
